Soft Skills Quiz

Job Skills can be categorized as either technical (hard) skills or soft skills.  Most people, particularly AS students understand technical skills.  Your AS program includes many courses to help you learn and practice technical skills such as editing using Final Cut Pro, or recording using Pro-Tools or Programming a Grand MA lighting console.  These are all technical skills, but jobs often require soft skills too.

Soft skills are often described as workplace skills, and some people even say they are common sense.  Employers often stress the importance of soft skills even more than technical skills, because they have more effect on overall job performance.   It is often said that Your technical skills may get you a job, but it is your soft skills that will allow you to keep it and advance.

The book Ten Things Employers Expect You to Learn in College, by Bill Coplin surveyed a large number of employers in a range of fields and determined that all employers are after the following soft skills: Work Ethic, Physical Skills, Communicating Verbally, Communicating in Writing, Working with People, Influencing People, Gathering Information, Using Quantitative Information, Asking and Answering the Right Questions, Solving Problems.

Take the Quiz to see how well, you understand soft skills.
