Assessment Update

Depending on your status as a student, you may be required to take the PERT, LOEP or Accuplacer before you can move forward and register for courses. Your orientation paperwork will indicate which one you may need, or your advisor may share this information with you.

If you have taken these assessments, and the scores are LESS than two years old, you can submit official scores to Valencia for review. If scores are more than two years old, they are no longer valid.

PERT (most common)

When you first come to Valencia College, you may be required to take Florida's Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT). There’s no failing the exam, however it will impact the courses you'll take at Valencia College, so it's important that you study for the test.

The PERT is an entry-level placement test required of all degree seeking students in the Florida College System (FCS) according to Florida Statutes, Section 1008.30, Rule 6A-10.0315. This test will determine your initial placement in English, reading and mathematics courses. Exemptions can be found here.

The PERT is broken down into three sections: Reading, Writing and Math. Students can place in college level in one section and not in another. Please know - there is no pass/fail for the PERT, it is simply an assessment of your skill to determine class level.

If you are seeking a technical certificate, the PERT is not required. HOWEVER, if you change to degree seeking at a later date, it will be required.
