This week you're beginning to work on your e-Portfolio! This website will end up being a representation of the ways you've achieved the ENC 1101 course outcomes through your work this semester.
You can begin your first ePortfolio planning assignment! To start your portfolio, we'll begin by organizing the work you've done so far by starting a "working folder." A working folder houses all the work you've done in the course before it's time to select specific pieces for your ePortfolio. You'll need storage space because you're going to end up with multiple drafts, in-class activities, notes, and other types of work you've completed this semester.
Whatever your storage system, your goal is to make it easy to find a specific draft, project, image, or other artifacts. You should label your drafts with a date, and make sure that each file folder also has a name.
Here are several other examples of labels you might use for your hard copies of your work:
- First Draft of Literacy Narrative
- Notes from office hours, 8/30/20
- Summary of Wardle and Downs reading
- Peer Feedback--Literacy Narrative
- Draft of Process Work Argument
- Ideas for Literacy Narrative
Other logical ways of organizing your working folder include labeling or sorting according to (1) chronology, (2) topic, or (3) your own level of interest in each project.
I recommend using Google Drive for your working folder because it's free and only requires a Gmail account. This will keep your work online in case something happens to your device across the semester. Here's how to use Google Drive if you haven't yet; https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2424384?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en (Links to an external site.)
Once you create a Google Drive account, you'll want to organize your folders. Here's how to do this: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2375091?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en (Links to an external site.)
You're welcome to use a different working folder system like your computer or Outlook's cloud system. Just be aware, you will need to include examples of your work from across the semester in your ePortfolio, so keep your files somewhere safe.
Your assignment here is to create a working folder that is organized and labeled. Upload either a screenshot of your working folder or a link to it if you're using an online storage system. Once you create your working folder, go back to the ENC 1101 Course Outcomes listed on the course syllabus. Write a short reflection on how Unit 1 has helped you accomplish one or more of these course outcomes and set some goals for Unit 2.
